Slice of Life: Worst. Parking. Evar.

Remember those films from the 50's and 60's showing hordes of Chinese people flowing through their cities on armies if bicycles? Based on this photograph of the parking situation at Northwestern University, that must be what it looks like just before classes start each morning.

At least the guy who found a convenient spot in the tree used his kickstand to keep the rest of his bike from marring the bark.

Remarkably, this wasn't the only place we saw this on our recent meander around the campus.

  1. What a great picture! And these must be pretty dedicated cyclers if this photo was taken in the last couple of days, because it has been COLD. If only we had more of our streets dedicated to bicycle-safe zones. Obviously there's a large number of people wanting to ride.

  2. I'm always surprised how many people ride their bicycles to work and school in the Chicago area. Even the bike racks outside the John Hancock Center are full almost every day, even when it's cold.

I know Hizzonor is big on bicycle commuting, and I think the rest of us underestimate the need for bicycle infrastructure in the city. Daley seems to be on to something that most people don't understand yet.
