The Market Cafe't

We found this interesting sight in Chicago's meat packing district, which is home to more than its fair share of interesting things.

So, what exactly was "The Market Cafe't" at 936 West Fulton Street?  Is "cafe't" short for cafĂ©?  Cafeteria?  Something else?  Did food pass through that slot in the hole in the brick wall?  Inquiring minds want to know!
